How many items can you juggle in mind?

This page contains two versions of a test of "working memory" or the ability to hold and manipulate multiple things in your conscious awareness at once. Though the neuroscientific basis of working memory is complex, research by Richard Clark and colleagues (2004) suggests that the more items you can hold in mind, the faster your brain's preferred frequency for communication is. To learn more about your brain, click the link on the right (research temporarily paused!)

If you want to learn even more about your brain, and how working memory really works, check out Chapter 3: In Sync in The Neuroscience of You.
